Eileen E. Skedel

June 13, 1923 — October 21, 2024

Joliet

Eileen E. Skedel (nee Feltz), age 101, died peacefully at the Alden Estates of Shorewood under the compassionate care of Lightways Hospice on October 21, 2024. She was born in Joliet, IL to her parents Rudolf and Mary (nee Knowles) Feltz on June 13, 1923.

Eileen married Edward Skedel on August 25, 1951 at St. Joseph Church in Joliet. They owned “Skedel’s Tavern” on Hickory & Ross in Joliet for many years. Together, they had many good times with friends and family. On weekends, the family went to the “Shack” in Dixon, IL on the Rock River for relaxation, fishing and picnics with friends and family. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Notre Dame. Eileen enjoyed music, a good joke and lively conversation. Her family brought her so much joy, and despite how large her family grew, she always remembered all of their birthdays. She was also a longtime member of the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Joseph Church, as well as the Cantigny Post Aux VFW 367.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, in 1978; son Edward (Mickey) in 2024; brothers Raymond (Hilda) Feltz, Thomas (Ruth) Feltz and Earl (Lucille) Feltz and nieces & nephews.

Eileen is survived by her son Robert (Candice) Skedel, Lawrence (Christine Napier) Skedel and daughter-in-law, Christine (the late Mickey) Skedel. She was the adoring grandmother of Douglas (Nicole) Skedel, Kevin (Dana) Skedel, Kate (Joseph) Sebalj, Michael (Vicky) Skedel, Mason (Linda) Skedel, Marc Skedel, Amanda (R.J.) Warren, Samantha Skedel and Tyler Skedel; great grandmother of Michael (Maddie) Pangrazio, Dakota Partington, Emilie (Tanner) Mullin, Frank Skedel, Dean Skedel, Vince Skedel, Nia Skedel, Nolan Skedel, Collin Sebalj, Brendan Sebalj and Louna Skedel; step-grandmother of Krista & Michael Napier; great-great grandmother of Nylah & Mickah Pangrazio, Isabella, Johan, Remie & Laelani Napier; and dearest aunt to Verna Kitchen.

The family would like to offer a special note of thanks to Eileen’s caregivers at Alden Estates, The Timbers, OLA and Lightways Hospice for her special care during her later years.

Per Eileen’s wishes, cremation rites have been respectfully accorded. A private family service and inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lightways Hospice of Joliet, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 416 N Chicago St. Joliet, IL 60432 would be appreciated.
