Age 75 and lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away Sunday April 6, 2008 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.

Preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Hazel (nee Klen) Matay; wife of 39 years, Dorothy (nee Kurator) 1996; son, Eddie Jr., 1958; and daughter, Kimberly Ann Marie 1978. Ed is also preceded in death by his four sisters, Mary, Margaret, Helen, and an infant sister; and his four brothers, Joe, Frank, Louie, and John.

Survived by his son, Michael Edward (Kathy) Matay of Shorewood; grandson, Sean Edward Matay; and step-granddaughter, Patti (Mike) Biondo of Shorewood; brother-in-law, Joe Pomykala. He leaves several nieces and nephews, Peggy, Cindy, Mary Kay, Dave, Gary, Joe and others.

Ed graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy, Joliet Junior College, and Aurora College with a Bachelor of Arts. He served in the US Air Force for four years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2910 in Bloomington. Ed was an avid bowler, baseball player, and artist having been featured at Barnes and Noble and other local area attractions. He was a long standing member at St. Bernard Church in Joliet and where he also attended grade school.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ajmere for his care. Ed has resided at Provena Villa Franciscan for the past six months and absolutely enjoyed their care. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, Kathy Y., Carol P., Marybeth N., Elaine N., Grace, Jennifer R. CNA and Katie from activities for their care and compassion.

Donations in Ed's name to the Provena Villa Franciscan Nursing Home would be appreciated.

From where services will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 9:30 AM to St. Bernard Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
