Edna C. “Katie” Gruber (nee Madden), age 88, entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 20, 2016.
Edna is survived by her loving son, Terrence A. (Jeanine) Gruber; loving daughter, Cathy (John) DiGiovanni; dear sisters, Bernadine (Al) Palmer, Nora (Henry) Errek, Patricia (Robert) Taylor, and Jule (Richard) Arambasich; cherished grandchildren, T.J. (Sue) Gruber, Christopher (Stefanie) Gruber, Katie (Will) Napier, Cassie (Michael) Pouk, John (Katie) and Alexis DiGiovanni; cherished great-grandchildren, A.J., Benjamin, and Abigail Gruber, Emma and Talen Napier, and Reese and Blaire Gruber, Harlow Pouk, and Sarah DiGiovanni; loving daughter-in-law, Andrea (the late Timothy) Gruber; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by her husband, Alexander “Sonny” Gruber; infant son, Daniel ; son, Timothy J. Gruber; parents, Edward and Pearl Madden; brothers, John and Edward “Ned” Madden; and sister Mary “Lorraine” Dirker.
Katie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a life-long resident of Joliet. She loved going to church and being with family. She was employed by Joliet Herald News and Fredricks Bindery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Katie’s name to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Willow Falls and the 6th Floor Neuro Unit at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for the excellent care provided.
A Celebration of Katie’s life will begin on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in the Nativity Room at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Interment of cremated remains to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Joliet. Per Katie’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be no funeral services held at the funeral home.
