Earl "Muggs" McGary Jr.

Earl “Muggs” McGary, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 28, 2021 at Lightways  Hospice of Joliet, with his loving sister and brother at his side.

Muggs is survived by his sister, Nora Giaudrone; and his brother, Donald McGary; his beloved faithful companion, Misia; and numerous nephews, niece and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl F. McGary Sr. and Catherine “Kate” McGary; brother-in-law, Douglas Giaudrone Sr; and nephew, Andrew Giaudrone.

Muggs was a proud United States Army Veteran. He attended Chaney and St. Mary Nativity Grade Schools and Joliet Catholic High School. He retired from Illinois Bell (AT&T). He was active in many organizations including Joliet Elks Lodge 296 (where he served as Exalted Ruler and was honored by being chosen as Illinois East District Elk of the Year), American Legion Post #1080, Joliet Moose Lodge 300, Croatian Cultural Club and many others. He enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling and visiting with his Minooka neighbors. He was an avid golfer and loved to golf with his friends. One of his proudest moments was a hole in one.

Special thank you to his amazing and caring doctors especially Dr. Metrou, Dr. Kiesel, Dr. Martini and Dr. Malik; the remarkable nurses and 6th floor therapists at Amita St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet; and the compassionate staff at Lightways Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lightways Hospice in his name would be appreciated.

A generous and courageous person, Muggs will be deeply missed by his family and all who loved and knew him.

In accordance with his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Anne Catholic Church, 1800 Dearborn St, Crest Hill, IL for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately at St Mary Nativity Cemetery.
