Dujo came to the United States from Croatia in 1949 and lived in Wyoming until he came to Joliet in 1954. He found work at United States Steel with the help of Louis Zdunich, who was like a second father to him. He met his future wife, Ida Mavec, in Joliet in 1954 and they were married on July 2, 1955. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Andrea Babic Tappan (1994), father Sime Babic (1974), mother Antonia (nee Masic) Babic (1935), brothers: Juri and Josip Babic and sisters: Maca, Ivka and Ana Babic.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Ida (nee Mavec) Babic of Joliet, sons: Brannie (Kirsten) Babic of Sonoma, California Victor (Peggy) Babic of Channahon. Grandfather of Anitra Babic of Maryland, Shannon Babic of Sonoma, California; Alisha Tappan of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Brandon, Ryan, and Tara Babic of Channahon. Also survived by his brother Marko (Mary) Babic of Crest Hill, brothers-in-law: Albert (Paula) Mavec and Felix (Mary) Mavec all of Joliet. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Dujo was an avid bocci ball player, gardener, and walked several miles each day since his retirement.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Ida Babic who will send all donations to the Slovenian Missionaries in Madagascar.
A celebration of Dujo's life will begin on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. withe prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Private Interment. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home (1211 Plainfield Road - Joliet, IL).
