Douglas W. Zdunich, age 69, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at his home with his family at his side. He is survived by his son Conor Zdunich, his siblings Diane Zdunich, David Zdunich, Donna (Timothy) Bossy, Damon Zdunich, Deborah Zdunich, Denise (Paul) Gibbs, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Joann (nee Merrill) Zdunich and his brother Daniel Zdunich Jr. Doug was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and he attended Joliet Junior College. He was a proud veteran who served his country with the United States Army stationed in Germany. Doug was a member of the International Chemical Workers Union, he worked for Fermilab, America’s particle physics and accelerator laboratory for several years where he had the opportunity to work on the supercollider; he then went on to work for global chemicals manufacturer Nouryon until his retirement. Doug was an avid reader and Green Bay Packers fan, he also enjoyed going to car shows with his son Conor, and volunteering his time at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Doug enjoyed leisurely rides in his red Corvette, which bore a license plate emblazoned “VINTNER”, signifying his passion for winemaking and his role as a founding investor and part owner of the Bishop’s Hill Winery in Joliet. Beyond investing in the business, he took pride in personally hosting the winery’s clientele and in the beautification of the facility and its grounds. Doug was a dedicated father, loyal brother and a true friend; a quiet and humble man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.Visitation for Doug will take place on November 6, 2024 from 4-8:00 p.m. at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, Joliet, IL. Funeral service will take place the following day, November 7, 2024, beginning with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life followed by a procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway St., Joliet IL for 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
