Douglas R. Harmon

May 10, 1958 — December 12, 2024

Douglas R. Harmon, age 66, entered into eternal life, suddenly, on Thursday, December 12th, 2024.

Douglas is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Mary Ellen Harmon (Frankovich), adoring children, Alana and Austin Harmon, brother Steve (Kathy) Harmon, and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Harmon, mother, Joanne E. Harmon-Davis (Northrup), and sister, Valorie (Phillip) Bryant.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, Douglas was also a proud Plainfield and Joliet resident since 1958. He was deeply beloved by countless people from numerous walks of life due to his effortless capability to make friends wherever he went. Referred to by many as a bright light in their lives, he was kind, incredibly funny, fiercely loyal, and the first person friends and family would call when they needed help.

Douglas was an accomplished and widely well respected expert in the petroleum industry for decades, most recently employed at Stenstrom Petroleum Services. His knowledge and leadership was vital in developing his strong community both nationwide and internationally with PEI Pioneer Group 10. He was a slightly less accomplished yet immensely passionate golfer, with Wedgewood’s Hole #5 being his archnemesis. He was a charismatic member of numerous golf leagues in the Joliet Park District, and Moran Athletic Club members also fondly recount seeing his friendly face each weekend.

His love for travel lead him and his family to many beautiful corners of the world, his love for fun compiled a massive collection of wildly entertaining stories, and his love for music gifted him a wonderful soundtrack to his beautiful life.

A celebration of life is currently being planned and will be held at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL 60435.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Organization for Autism Research or the Autism Society of Illinois to honor his son Austin, would be greatly appreciated.

You are so dearly missed Dougie, Pugdar, Dear, and Dad. Our memories and love will remain with you forever.
