Dorothy Surman

Age 93 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at home with her family by her side.

Born March 5, 1930 in Joliet, Dorothy was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Dovgan) Bostjancic. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Providence High School. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. In her free time, she enjoyed baking and cooking. Dorothy was also a huge sports fan. You could find her cheering on either the Chicago Bears or the Chicago Blackhawks, or find her watching the featured Nascar races on Sundays. Dorothy’s family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Michael (Trish) Surman, Joseph (Shelley) Surman, Janice (Michael) Claywell and Patricia (Richard) Krohn; grandchildren: Craig (Lorna) Surman, Nicholas Surman, Matthew (Shelbee) Lee, Jessica Claywell, Joseph Claywell and Jared Krohn; five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregiver’s Jeanine and Merry and Lightways Hospice Care for all their love and support.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mary; a son in infancy: David Mark; grandson: Zachary Krohn; brother: Frank (Bernie) Bostjancic; sister: Mary (Charles) Klein; brother: Edward Bostjancic, John (Joan) Bostjancic and twin sister: Dolores “Babe” (John) Krzysciak.

Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, 416 N Chicago Street in Joliet, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. which is when the Mass of Christian Burial will begin. Interment will follow and Dorothy will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lightways Hospice Care, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL in her memory would be appreciated.
