Dorothy Mae Crombie (nee Benedetto) age 93, died peacefully with her children at her side on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
Dorothy was a graduate of JTHS in Joliet. She met her husband, Edward H. Crombie, while employed at the Crombie Dairy as office manager. Dorothy dedicated her life caring for and making memories with her family. She also volunteered at First Presbyterian Church as a Deaconess visiting shut ins and served as coordinator for the Youth Wednesday Club program. Dorothy was a member of Childerguild, a volunteer group benefitting Silver Cross Hospital. Dorothy found enjoyment and friendship with her volunteer work for the hospital’s Gift Shop. She adored being a buyer for jewelry and displaying the giftware. Dorothy also chaired several annual charity events for Silver Cross Hospital. She was extremely artistic and made lifelong friends sharing the joy of painting and gardening. Nothing brought her more joy than being outside in nature.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Ed (Jill) Crombie, Beth (Jim) Schloss, Tim (Linda) Crombie and Doug (Lisa) Crombie; 9 adored grandchildren, Ed (Clarissa), Aaron (Elizabeth) and Mandi Crombie, Heather (Jon) Klausa, Dave (Anna) and Noah (Lindsay) Schloss, Ian, Sydney and Kelly Crombie; siblings, Charles (Sue) Skeldon and Donna Lou Granado. Dorothy was fortunate to share the joy of 10 precious great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward H.Crombie; a brother, Benjamin Skeldon; and parents, Bessie (nee LeMay) and Domonic Benedetto.
The family wishes to thank the loving staff at the MacLean House, who provided a grace filled journey’s end.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will begin on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave, Joliet, IL 60435 with a gathering visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service to be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Joliet.
