Donna Mae Gilroy

June 7, 1948 — December 29, 2018

Aunt Donna passed away peacefully at Regency Rehabilitation Center in Morris, Illinois with her family by her side. Donna was born and raised in Joliet Illinois. She grew up on Bluff Street and attended St. Mary’s Nativity School. In April of 1966 she married Angelo “George” Gilroy. Donna and George shared a loving bond over their 58 years together.

Donna retired from Dominick’s Grocery Store after 32 years as a cashier. She loved garage sales and would map out her route every week.  She had a passion for craft shows and decorating her home and yard for every holiday there was.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Likar, mother, Antonia (Chinderle) Likar; her brothers, Raymond Likar and Patrick Liker; her two infant sons; and a nephew, Timothy Likar. Then on July 24, 2018 she lost a part of her heart. Her best friend and the love of her life George was called home.

Over the last several months Donna showed courage and strength beyond words. Her life as she knew it had changed. On December 29, 2018 she decided it was time to let go and climb the stairway to heaven to be with her parents, her brothers, her children and her beloved George. She will be attending a family reunion like no other. To be in a place where she is at peace and happy to be with the ones she loved and lost.

Donna is survived by her nieces and nephews, Diana (Martin) Casillas, of Florida, Joyce (David) Cora of Lockport, Ray Likar of Florida, Deborah Durando (Duke) of Morris, Barbara Ruffatto (Daniel –deceased)  of Coal City and Andrew Liker of Lockport. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Madge Liker of Coal City and Darlene Liker of Florida in addition to numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Regency Rehabilitation Center along with the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice for their care and compassion during her stay.

Per Aunt Donna’s wishes a private graveside service will be held.
