Donald Raymond Goebel, passed into eternal life October 26, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Survived by his wife of 45 years, Uamporn (nee Punpala) Goebel; children, Julie Washington, Todd Goebel, Shawn Goebel, and Brian (Krystle) Goebel; sister, Kathleen (Tom) Longnecker; granddaughters, Allie and Katie Washington; nieces, Lori (Ron) Campbell and Sheri Longnecker; nephew, Brad Longnecker; and numerous cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Catherine; brother in-infancy, Raymond Goebel Jr.; and sister, Gloria Goebel.
Donald was born on February 10, 1948 to Raymond and Catherine (nee Schutter) Goebel of Joliet, Illinois. He was a lifelong resident of Joliet and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He served during the Vietnam conflict with the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973 and worked as a maintenance mechanic for Commonwealth Edison Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1999 from the Will County Station in Romeoville. He also worked as a custodian for the Plainfield School District at Creekside Elementary from 2001 until 2010.
Donald was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing the fruits of his harvests with family and neighbors. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team and passed down his team spirit to several of his children and family members.
A celebration of Donald’s life will begin on Monday, October 30, 2017 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church (404 N. Hickory St. Joliet, IL 60435) at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. There will be no services held at the funeral home. Per Donald’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
