Dominick T. Cap, age 64, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Dominick is survived by his loving wife, Andrea; children Laurel Cap and Daniel (Amy) Cap; grandson Lyric Cap; brothers John (Sandy), Al (the late Linda), Tony (Nancy), Matt (Maria) and Dave (Christine) Cap; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Al Gernenz, his wife Annie, and son John.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Cap; sister, Jeanette Stanford; brothers in infancy, Chester, Andrew and Mark Cap.
Dom worked at Caterpillar as a machinist. After graduating Joliet Catholic Academy (class of 1970), he served in the United States Navy as an AWI with squadron VP-60 Cobras. He was a proud member of the South Side Civic Club (SSCC), Moran A.C, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300, Associated Clubs of Will County, Illinois State Rifle Association, a founding member and past president of American Legion Riders Chapter 1080, and member/former Commander (2001) and Chaplin (2003-2010) of the American Legion Post #1080. Dom served as secretary (18 years) with the Maverick Bowling League at Town & Country. He was a donor for the past 22 years to the Heartland Blood Center. He participated the last 6 years in the American Legion Legacy Run (the largest multistate/multiday cross-country motorcycle event supporting national fundraising providing educational assistance to the children of active duty who died while on active service). He was also a member of the Patriot Guard. An avid White Sox and Blackhawks fan, he also enjoyed golf especially the SSCC annual “Dan O’Leary” golf outing with Wags, George and Kaz, camping, bicycling, and spending time at the range with George and Ryan. More importantly, he loved spending time with family especially his grandson Lyric. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and hardy laugh.
A celebration of Dominick’s life will begin on Friday, January 20, 2017 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
