David E. Voots

December 9, 1928 — April 6, 2018

Long time Joliet resident David E. Voots, age 89, passed away peacefully, Friday April 6, 2018 at Ross Memorial Health Care Center in Kennesaw Georgia.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years Phyllis Jean (Dugan) Voots (January 24, 1998); granddaughters, Jennifer Ann and Sarah Margaret Voots; grandson, David Michael Voots; and brothers, Richard J. Voots and Norman J. Voots.

He is survived by three sons, David (Tina) Voots, Terry (Gina) Voots, and Steven (Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz) Voots; daughter, Kimberly Aglietti (Glenn Umemoto); grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Hart, Eric (Liz) Voots, Ryan Voots, Max (Tiffany) Voots, Robin (Chris) Bohlen, Casey Aglietti; and five great-grandchildren, Nathan and Abby Hart, Elliott and Judy Vennum, and Ivanna Voots.

Dave was born in Quincy, Illinois, son of Joseph Gerhardt and Helen (Young) Voots.  He attended Quincy Senior High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor from 1946 to 1948. He then graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved his new family to Joliet and worked for 37 years at IBM in both computer hardware and operating system support. Both he and Phyllis loved to travel; wearing out numerous RV’s and motor homes in their retirement. Dave enjoyed woodworking, biking, motor scooters, and fixing stuff.

He was a past member of the American Legion Post #1080, V.F.W. Cantigny Post #367, Joliet Moose Lodge 300, and member of IOF Foresters since 1956.

In honor of Dave's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private services and military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Dave’s name to Center for Disability Services (United Cerebral Palsy) at 311 S Reed Street, Joliet, IL, 60436 would be greatly appreciated.
