Daphne Corellie Bailey, age 82, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
Daphne is survived by her beloved daughter, Octavia Bailey; cherished grandchildren, Jordan Green and Jailah Fredrick; dear sisters, Marilyn Gardner and Paulette Chin; and precious nieces, great-nephews and cousins in the U.S. and Jamaica, Monica (Lorna) Myrie, Sharon G. Maxwell, Heather Harris, Michele Gardner, Nadia Lyn, Adrian, Brian, and Hugh Jr. Myrie.
A devoted caregiver, Daphne leaves behind her treasured "extended families," the Greens, Harbours, Pollacks and Holtzes as well as faithful friends, Lela and Vernice Moffett, Jeanette Green,and John McGee.
Daphne is preceded in death by her parents, Ena Gray and Stephen Brown; aunts, Ivy and Gladys Brown; and husband Leon Bailey.
Born in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, to Ena Gray and Stephen Brown, Daphne later migrated to Birmingham, England to begin her professional career with International Harvester. She later moved to the U.S. where she worked in banking before earning her cosmetology license and starting her own massage therapy business. Daphne was married to Leon Bailey in 1973 and their daughter, Octavia was born in 1975. Until her recent retirement, Daphne worked as a longtime personal assistant, housekeeper and in-home care provider for families in Naperville, Plainfield and Joliet.
A follower of Jesus Christ, Daphne lived her faith each day with genuineness and joy. She enjoyed long walks, Gospel music, and plants and flowers of nearly every variety. A hard worker, prayer warrior, and peacemaker, Daphne was known by all for her warmth, wit, strength and steadfastness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Three Rivers Church, 23901 W Rolf Road, Plainfield, IL 60586.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
