Dane Sikic, age 81, at rest on Saturday, July 23, 2016 with his loving family by his side.
Dane is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marija Sikic; children, Daniel (Kate) Sikic, Maria Schahczniski, Michael Sikic, Jacob (fiancé Michelle Mikula) Sikic, George, (Judy Carnes) Sikic, Steven Sikic, Bernardeta Sikic and Veronika (Michael) Thies; grandchildren, Alexandra (Kyle) Hunzeker, Colin Sikic, Dane Sikic, Marija Schahczinski, Daniel (Jennifer) Schahczinski, Zachary Snyder, Alyssa Mikula, Albert Mikula IV, George Sikic Jr., Kortney Sikic, Brittnee Sikic, Coty (fiancé Nicole Heber) Lake, Steven N. Sikic, Isabella Sikic, Antwonn McGee, Myka Thies, Meagan Thies and Luca Thies; four great-granchildren, Austin Sterling, Jasen Schahczinski, Kaycie Schahczinski and Wyatt Hunzeker; sister, Kata (Milovan) Eric; and brother, Mile “Mike”(Zora) Sikic; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Croatia.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Marija Sikic; and 10 siblings.
Dane was born July 7, 1935 in Gudura Gracac, Lika to the parents of Mile and Marija Sikic. Dane and Marija came to the United States, July 4, 1959 where they established U.S. Citizenship and went into business for 25 years. During the time of owning and operating numerous Bars and Restaurants, Dane was also a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #444 in Joliet. He and his wife were longtime parishioners of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet. Dane was a proud member and the past president of the Croatian Cultural Club in Joliet as well as a member of the CFU Lodge #18. Dane was a proud maker of wine and sljivovica, enjoyed his Croatian Tambura music and loved roasting lambs and chickens at any Croatian function. Dane was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dane’s name to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
A celebration of Dane’s life will begin on Thursday, July 28, 2016 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment of cremated remains will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery in Crest Hill. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3-8 p.m. Per Dane’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded following visitation.
