Charles H. Layfield, Jr.
“Chip”
Age 62 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his home.
Born February 10, 1959 in Joliet, Chip was a son of Charles, Sr. and Ardis (nee Beach) Layfield. He was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Central High School with the class of 1977. Chip made a career for himself in the auto industry and primarily worked in sales and finance for over 40 years. He had a passion for NFL football and was a devoted Chicago Bears fan no matter the outcome on any given Sunday. Chip will be remembered for his infectious laugh, generosity toward anyone he met and for defining the term “life of the party”. In recent years, he became a member of the Second Baptist Church in Joliet and embraced his new church family. Chip had a great love for his grand-doggies: Polo and Cali, but his greatest love was for his children. Chip’s greatest joy was being a father. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his three children: Tayler, Chad and Matthew Layfield; the mother of his children: Lisa Layfield; siblings: Michael C. (Jeri) Layfield and Kathryn Layfield; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his dear friend: Stan Sander.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents: Charles, Sr. and Ardis.
Per Chip’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
