Charles J. Lopez Sr. (Charley) passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice, Joliet at the age of 91 on Friday, February 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Charley was born on January 1, 1932 to the late Julia (Moreno) and Ramon Lopez.
He was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School class of 1951. He retired from the Will County Carpenters Local 174 and was an election judge for over 20 years and felt a civic duty to be part of this process. Charley was also a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and was proud to be a participant in the remodeling of the church. He loved his family and was always available to help whoever and whenever he was needed. He especially loved his :dogs, Elwood, Jake, Bascom, Brandy, Shelby, Ivy and :grand dogs Louie, Ron and Stella.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 71 years Elidia (Lil) (nee Gutierrez); children, Toni (Darrell) Syfert, Charles Jr. (Vickie), Bruce (Victoria); grandchildren, Carrie (Corey) Hromek, Lauren Staley (Chris O’Hara), Elizabeth (Luke) McDonald, Andrew (Kade) Lopez, Liane Lopez (Pete Stewart);great grandchildren, Mia and Christian Hromek, Matthew Ferry, Jacob and Liam McDonald, Blake Lopez, and Kane Gossett. Also surviving him are his; siblings, Aurora Gallegos, Ray Lopez, Ernie Lopez as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Amelia (Amy) Carpenter; brothers, Antonio, Jesse, George, Paul and David and Henry Lopez as well as; sisters, Lupe Ferreira, Socorro Lopez and Catalina Lopez.
Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Charley’s life will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 205 E. Jackson St, Joliet, IL. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.. Interment will follow and Charles will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Joliet.
A special thank you to the physical therapy staff at Solstice, Shannon, Anju and Edgar who took special care of Charley when he had therapy and cna Sharisse who cared for him when he needed the help. Thank you also to the nurses, cna's and staff at Lightways Hospice whom are truly special people.
