Carmen M. Rauman (nee’ Fonseca)
Age 89 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home with her family by her side.
Born March 3, 1934 in Joliet, Carmen was a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Jaso) Fonseca. She was raised and educated in Joliet and due to the need for help around the family home, she was tasked with homemaker duties at an early age. Carmen worked for Seltzer’s Drug Store as a store clerk for many years while also tending to her own home and family. She was very active in the PTA and the various baseball activities with her son, and in her free time enjoyed cooking, dancing and listening to music. Carmen was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of the church that her father, Joseph founded, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carmen is survived by her children: Kim (David) Matuszewski, Rory A. Rauman, and Gaelyn Sutton; grandsons: Austin and Caine Sutton; brother: Stephen Fonseca; sisters-in-law: JoAnn Fonseca and Linda Fonseca, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Mary, and siblings: Jesse “Jay” Fonseca, Josephine (Anthony) Lopez, Raul Fonseca, Richard Fonseca, Joseph Fonseca, Fred Fonseca, and Rudy (Connie) Fonseca.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Carmen’s life will continue on Saturday, April 22, 2023 beginning with closing prayers in the funeral home chapel starting at 9:20 a.m. The funeral will then drive in procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 205 E Jackson Street in Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Per Carmen’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following Mass.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Sunny Hill Nursing Home and Lightways Hospice Care for the excellent care provided to their mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Carmen’s memory to either Sunny Hill Nursing Home or Lightways Hospice Care.
