Carl Andrew Sowa

Carl Andrew Sowa, age 87, of Shorewood, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Survived by his loving wife, Bonita Bortoli Sowa; daughters, Annelise Rakoczy-Sowa and Roxanne Hatting; grandchild, Quentin Sowa; step-daughters, Debra (Eugene) Harper, Cindy Smuda, Holly (Terrance) Peeples, and Tina Robanske; step-grandchildren, Devyn and Emily Robanske and Julia Walaszek; nieces, Mari-Ellen Robinson, Leanne (Thomas) Peterson, Lisa (Charles) Howell and Sandra (Scott) Malone.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose (Swiersz) Sowa; son, Gary Sowa; sister, Virginia Lesnik; and brother-in-law, Lud Lesnik.

Carl was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College, received BSC and MBA Degrees from DePaul University and was a Certified Public Accountant.  He was a proud United States Army veteran and  was a founding partner of the Schillerstrom and Sowa Certified Public Accounting Firm.

Carl was formerly employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company, Argonne National Laboratory, and served as Chief Financial Officer for Material Control Inc. prior to his retirement in 2004. He was a former member and president of the Board of Education for Richland School District 88A in Crest Hill, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church of St Jude in Joliet or Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.

At his request, cremation rites were accorded. The family invites relatives and friends to join them on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
