Bob Durand Odom, age 99, was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Born in Laurens County, Georgia and raised in Umatilla, Florida.
Bob served in the United States Army during WWII, AmeriCal Division, Guadalcanal, and was awarded the American Defense Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with Bronze Star.
Survived by his loving daughters, Carleen O. (Dr. George F.) Vandegrift of Crest Hill, IL, Pamela O. (William) Jones of Roanoke, VA; two granddaughters, Joleen V. (Bradley J.) McCarty of Channahon, IL, Rachel V. Herod of Palatine, IL; four great-grandchildren, Christopher M. (Carissa) McCarty of Kyle, Texas, Shauna J. McCarty of Channahon, IL, Maxwell Herod and Madeline Herod of Palatine, IL; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Sappa Odom who passed away on her 92nd birthday in 2010, after 66 years of marriage, his parents and all of his siblings and their spouses.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
A celebration of Bob’s life will begin on Thursday, January 4, 2018 with a visitation at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors.
There will be no funeral home visitation or service.
