Bertha OA�??Brien, nee Ostoich, age 87, passed away April 10, 2012. Survived by her daughter Gayle (Paul) Shimek and son Michael (Lisa) OA�??Brien; grandchildren Stephanie (Nenad) Jakovljevic, Christopher and Lindsay OA�??Brien; sisters-in-law Genevieve Ostoich and Grace Ostoich; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Patrick OA�??Brien; parents Rade and Sophie Ostoich; brothers George Ostoich in infancy and Nicholas and Paul Ostoich; sisters Helen (Michael) Schusner , Mildred (John) Rydman, Patricia (Patrick) Bakke and Mary Ostoich.
Bertha dearly loved being a Red Hatter and having lunch with her church lady group. She was an active member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and Kolo. She worked for many years and retired from the Boston Store. She was also co-owner of the Bluebird Restaurant with her sisters Mildred and Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 300 Stryker Avenue, Joliet, IL 60436.
Funeral services for Bertha OA�??Brien will begin on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church with Father Nedeljko Lunich officiating. She will lie-in-state at the church from 10:30 am until the time of the funeral service. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church. Graveside services to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 5 to 9 pm at the funeral home with a Pomen service beginning at 8:00 pm at:
