Berk L Broadway Sr (Daddy Berk) was born April 10th 1926 in Friars Point, MS to the late Isaac (Ike) Broadway and Willie Bell King. He transited into eternity on Saturday December 4th 2021 at home.
Berk was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist church for years. He was the chairman of the Trustee Board for any years in which the church relocated to its new location. In doing so his name is engraved on the building.
Berk attended Coahoma county Schools and relocated to Joliet in 1945 and enlisted into the Army.
Berk was a World War 2 veteran. He was station in Frankfort, Germany. He was honorable discharged and received an Army of Occupation Medal (World War 2 Victory Medal)
Berk was married to Velma Broadway (Davis) for 45 years.
Berk was a hard working man. He believed in working hard and providing for his family. He retired from 3 employers; 20 years G.A.F. (roofer), 26 years Will County Sherriff Department (Deputy), and 29 years at Grand Prairie Transit (Bus Driver).
Daddy Bark was a well-respected man in his neighborhood, community, and surrounding areas. He was full of jokes, wisdom, and love. He often enjoyed talking about the military, his school bus stories and watching Jimmy Swagger Gospel shows.
Berk was proceeded in death by his parents Isaac Broadway, Willie Bell King; his wife Velma Broadway, 4 Children; Lawrence (Larry) Jones, Joyce Russell, Margaret Johnson, and Berk Broadway Jr; 2 grandchildren; Curtis Russell III and Duane Russell.
Berk leaves to cherish his loving memories is; sister Marva Tevis of California; 2 grandchildren; Andrea Broadway of Texas and Marcus Broadway of Illinois. 7 great grandchildren; 4 special grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Family will be receiving friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet IL with chapel services beginning at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home.on Friday, December 17, 2021. The funeral procession will be departing at the conclusion of the chapels service for committal services to be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery , 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL at 2:30 P.M. with military honors.
