Benedict “Ben” G. Cerven age 92, of Joliet, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at Lightways Hospice Joliet. A graduate from Joliet Township Central (‘49). Ben worked as an electrician for US Steel retiring after 46 years
Ben was part owner of WBYG radio station where he was known as BYG Ben. He enjoyed traveling and gardening. Tinkering was his hobby. He was a “jack-of-all trades. If it was broken, “Ben would fix it.”
Surviving are his children; Ben (Reba), Jim (Linda), Delores (John) Corcoran, and Diann (Dave) Verlare; nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, of 66 years; his parents; son Richard and his wife Susan; son-in-law Joseph Pangrazio; two brothers and five sisters.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the caregivers and staff at Lightways Hospice for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben’s name to Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 with relatives and friends gathering at Tezak’s Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with chapel services beginning at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at St. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Joliet.
