Barbara L. McDavid (nee Winters), age 80, entered eternal life on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Valerie (J.P. Munson) McDavid, Lori (Tom) Tezak, Dana (Michelle) McDavid, Dianna (James) Martin; grandchildren, Mackenze and Zoe Tezak, Christopher Gerulis, Megan (Wes) Zufelt, Laura (Paul) Graham and Tyler, Andrew and Rachel Martin and Justin Brubaker; great-grandchildren, Damien McDavid and Emma Zufelt, Nadia and Jameson Graham; sister, Brenda (the late Fred) Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Mary Fran (Len) Overcash.
Preceded in death by her husband, Vernie E. McDavid Jr. (1990); parents, Harvey and Velma (nee Pierce) Winters; siblings, Byron (Polly) Winters and Betty (Fred) Barrells.
Barbara was born in Big Sandy, TN and married the love of her life, Vernie at the age of 13. After moving to Chicago, Barbara was employed by R.R. Donnelley and then moved to Lockport, IL where she and her husband built their first house. She then was employed by Electromotive in LaGrange, IL. In 1976 she and Mack proudly built their second house in Channahon. Barbara was a dedicated wife, supporting her husband’s groups, The Flying Bunch and the River Rats, his love of the river and much time spent at the beloved Valhalla. Barbara ministered to her community and friends through groups such as, the Red Hat Club and numerous book clubs and was very active in her church, Grace Bible. Her favorite place to minister was at the dining room table, eating her delicious food. After her husband’s death in 1990 she went back to college at Moody Bible Institute to pursue her ministry and spent 2 years in Russia, 1 year in China and also traveled to Guatemala, Uganda and various other destinations. Following her mission work she came home to dedicate the rest of her time to becoming the best Grandma Butterfly anyone could ask for. Barbara instilled the love of travel into all of her children by taking them on various trips all over the country. She was an amazing, caring and loving mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be truly missed.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will begin on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Larry Jacobsgaard officiating. Interment will be held privately at McDavid Grove Cemetery in Springville, TN where Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
