Barbara L. Hucek

Barbara L. Hucek (nee Smith), age 80, of Joliet, at rest after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, February 6, 2014.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Wendell J. Hucek; four sons, Kurt (Patty), Jeffrey (Karen), Douglas (Beth) and Steven Hucek; eight grandchildren, Annie Allgood, Kurt (Jennifer), Marc (Marissa) Hucek, Kristin (Michael) Tomasino, Justin, Brianne Hucek, Adam and Nolan Hucek; great-grandchildren, Logan and Giana Allgood and Natalie Hucek; sisters, JoAnn (the late Chuck) Freeman and Alice (Art) Haws; dear friend, Delores Glenn. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by her parents, George and Evelyn (nee Flanagan) Smith;

Barbara was born in Dodge City, KS and was raised in the Chicagoland area before marrying and settling in Joliet, IL. She was employed for 16 years at the Holiday Inn in Shorewood, IL. She was a volunteer and board member for the Joliet Deaf Club for over 50 years, as well as a Senior Deaf Club member. She enjoyed, family, friends, traveling, playing cards, puzzles and watching the Chicago Cubs. Even though she was deaf, we will forever miss her beautiful voice.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Trager, Dr. Brems, Dr. Gustafson and the entire staff at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center who provided care for Barbara, as well as the Physical Therapy Department.

In lieu of flowers, Mass in honor of Barbara to be said at the Cathedral of St. Raymond would be appreciated.

A celebration of Barbara's life will begin on Monday, February 10, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 11:20 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Joliet. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL from 1-5 p.m.
