Audrey M. Hornicak (nee Wagner)

Age 92 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023 at her home with her family by her side.

Born May 12, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Peter and Ruth (Mortimer) Wagner. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Township High School, class of 1948. Audrey was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a business office supervisor. Audrey married Joseph Hornicak and became a stay at home mom to raise her four children.

Audrey was an accomplished artist and loved to travel. She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Audrey is survived by her four children: Mary Jo (the late John) Heiberger, Father John Hornicak, Katherine (William) Starasinich, and Thomas (Lisa) Hornicak; grandchildren: Audrey (Geoffrey) Clark, Nicole Heiberger, Samantha (Andrew) Stork, Nicholas, Anne and Michael Starasinich, and Elizabeth and Gabrielle Hornicak; her brother: Peter (Sheila) Wagner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph in 2001; parents: Peter and Ruth; sister: Ruth (Stephen) Stukel, and brother: Justin (Joan) Wagner.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The funeral will then drive in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N Raynor Avenue in Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Joliet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Audrey’s name to the family for their distribution.
