Arthur A. Smith

Passed away peacefully on April 18, 2007; age 81.

Loving father of Louis (Helen), Manuel (Ruth), Jean Ann, Betty Jane and Joseph (Cathy) Smith; dearest grandfather of 18; and great-grandfather to many. Cherished brother of Elizabeth (the late Arnold) Nelsen, Ella Mae (the late James) Vilt and Lora (the late Daniel) Kirchner. Fond brother-in-law of Juanita (the late Howard) Smith. Kind uncle and cousin to many.

Preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. and Ida Mae (nee Miner) Smith; sister, Leota Smith; brothers, Howard and Harry Smith.

Arthur was born in Gardner and moved to Joliet in 1954. He was employed at Joliet Arsenal, Caterpillar Tractor Co., Reynolds Metals, UniRoyal, Shelby Craft Co., Richold Chemical and Richter Supply. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 1080, VFW Post 2608, Dwight, IL; Southside Civic Club, Joliet Moose #300, and lifetime member of the Ravens A.C. Arthur was an avid golfer and bowler for many years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to be used according to the families wishes.

Chapel services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of services on Friday.
