Arthur D. Cook
Age 89 of Plainfield and Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.
Born August 20, 1932 in Chicago, Arthur Dominick was the son of Arthur T. and Sophie (Slausgalvis) Cook. He was raised and educated in Chicago and went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Oriskany Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Arthur worked in electronics and computers. He was first employed with Argonne National Laboratory from 1957 to 1968 and then transitioned to Fermi National Laboratory from 1967 until retiring in 1994. Arthur was a member of the Plainfield American Legion and a devoted parishioner of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church where he faithfully served on the church council for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Arthur is survived by his wife: Shelbia Costa Cook; daughter: Deborah Cook; niece: Karen (nee Giliberto) Baltazar; nephew: Joseph Giliberto, as well as numerous in-laws.
He is preceded in death by his first wife: Sophie Ann (nee Baloy); parents: Sophie and Arthur and sister: Phyllis Giliberto, and several of Sophie Ann’s family who were beloved as his own.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Panikhida Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A visitation will be held the following morning, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m in the funeral home chapel. The funeral will then drive in procession for a 10:00 a.m. funeral service at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 1000 Barber Lane in Joliet. Interment will follow and Arthur will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
