Artemio Hernandez

January 25, 1945 — February 9, 2025

Artemio Hernandez, 80, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Artemio was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose warmth, humor, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A true "jack of all trades," Artemio was always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. He had a deep appreciation for nature, finding joy in spending time outdoors, and cherished every moment spent with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, often seen at their games offering his unwavering support while sharing his signature jokes and playful spirit.

Artemio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lourdes Hernandez (nee Cruz); his parents, Gelacio and Adelaida (nee Cornejo) Hernandez; and two brothers, Nicolas Hernandez and Amador Hernandez.

He is survived by his children: Ismael (Cenorina) Hernandez, Fernando (Lariane) Hernandez, Artemio Hernandez Jr., Aurora (Salvador) Ramirez, and Maribel Hernandez. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Ismael Hernandez Jr., Jordan Hernandez, Alexus Ledesma, Lorriza Hernandez, Fernando (Emma Ortiz) Hernandez Jr., Salvador Ramirez Jr., and Anthony Ramirez. He is also survived by his siblings: Roberto Hernandez, Cipriano Hernandez, Ricarda Pizano, and Silvina Nuñez.

Artemio’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, and his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

A celebration of Artemio’s life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory, Joliet, IL. Cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes.


Artemio Hernández, de 80 años, de Joliet, IL, falleció tranquilamente el Domingo 9 de Febrero de 2025, rodeado de su amada familia.

Artemio fue un esposo, padre, abuelo, hermano y amigo devoto, cuya calidez, humor y amor por la vida serán profundamente extrañados por todos los que lo conocieron. Un verdadero "manitas", Artemio siempre estaba dispuesto a echar una mano o compartir una risa. Tenía una profunda apreciación por la naturaleza, encontrando alegría al pasar tiempo al aire libre, y atesoraba cada momento que pasaba con su familia. Sus nietos eran su orgullo y alegría, y a menudo se le veía en sus juegos ofreciendo su apoyo incondicional mientras compartía sus chistes característicos y su espíritu juguetón.

Se celebrará una ceremonia en honor a la vida de Artemio el Viernes 14 de Febrero de 2025, con una visita en la funeraria Tezak, ubicada en 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, de 4:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. La misa funeral se celebrará el Sábado 15 de Febrero de 2025 a las 11:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica de San Juan Bautista, 404 N. Hickory, Joliet, IL. La cremación se llevará a cabo de acuerdo con sus deseos.
