Arnold Rae Volling
Age 85 of Joliet, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice on Sunday, December 4, 2022, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses.
Arnold was a member of St. Mary Magdalene parish for over 50 years and also a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Guitar Choir for 15+ years. He shared his love of music, playing guitar and singing, with those that attended the 11:30 Sunday Mass.
He was a professional musician for 33 years, playing lead guitar and singing with the VERSATiLEs, We Three, and City Lights (FreeLand) bands throughout the Joliet Area and beyond almost every weekend of the year.
Arnold had a varied work career and retired from Joliet Public School District 86 after 20 years of service.
Playing the guitar was an integral part of Arnold’s being, with hardly a day going by that he didn’t pick up one of his guitars. He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, woodworking, tending to his yard, puttering in his workshop, taking cross-country motorcycle trips with Carol, and exercising. He was a voracious reader and crossword puzzler.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 62+ Years: Carol; two sons: Mark (Erika) and Bill, and one daughter: Debi; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother: Glenn (Joyce), sister: Linda, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and “Big Red”, Arnold’s favorite guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Helen; brother: Arthur Volling, and brothers-in-law: George Knezevic, Gene Kaminski, and Larry Ohlsen.
Per Arnold’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 127 S Briggs Street in Joliet. Interment will follow and Arnold will be laid to rest at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Arnold’s memory to: Morning Star Mission Ministries, Lightways Hospice Care, or St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
