Anthony Faikus Jr, age 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine (nee Likas) Faikus; his daughter, Cheryl (Michael Johnson) Capra; son, Glenn (Denise) Faikus; grandchildren, Leanne (John) Ostrander, Kenneth (Andrea) Faikus, Anthony Faikus, Leslie (Frank) Murphy and Amanda (John) Drews; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Blanche Finn.
Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Faikus Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Faikus (nee Karasek); and one brother, Miles Faikus.
A proud veteran of World War II, Captain Anthony Faikus Jr. served as a fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Corps, where he demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery during his time in the skies. His service was not only a testament to his courage but also to his unyielding dedication to defending the freedom of others. Throughout his career, Anthony earned the admiration of his fellow service members and countless others whose lives he touched.
After the war, Anthony remained devoted to his nation and its safety. He served with distinction as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, contributing his expertise and passion for service.
A lifelong member of the American Sokol Organization, he was committed to preserving the cultural and community spirit of the group. He believed deeply in the values of physical fitness, discipline, and camaraderie that the organization embodied.
In addition to his military service and volunteer work, Anthony was also a published author.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony’s name may be made to the Illinois Spina Bifida Association.
A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family invites relatives and friends to gather back at the funeral home on Friday, February 14, 2025 for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until word of remembrance at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with full military honors.
