Anthony J. Dragovan

Anthony is survived by his two special nephews, Jerry(Janet) Russ, and John (Geradette) Russ who never forgot their Uncle Bandy.

Also survived by sisters-in-law, Bernadine Russ and Helen Dominicci; brother-in-law, Anthony (Jan) Russ; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anthony was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Russ); an infant son; his parents, Martin and Barbara (Videtic) Dragovan; brothers Martin, John and Joseph; and sisters, Mary Slobodnik, Barbara Russ and Frances Sefcik.

Anthony was a proud two year veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during World War II. He spent 17 months overseas and participated in the campaigns of Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Germany with the second infantry division. He was awarded several decorations including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Man Badge, Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Good Conduct Medal.

Prior to entering the army, he was employed by the American Steel and Wire Company. Upon his Honorary Discharge from the service he returned to work at the American Steel and Wire Company and worked there for 30 years until his retirement.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish in Joliet, as well as a member of Holy Name Society and KJKJ Lodge # 29. Bandy was also a member of the Will County Old-Timers' Baseball Association.

He was an usher at the church for over 20 years and a weekly money counter.

He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears and the Notre Dame Football teams.

For many years Bandy was a member of the Joliet Pigeon Club, where he won numerous races and received several 1st and 2nd place trophies. It was a hobby that he loved and gave him much enjoyment.

Bandy lived a very rich life. He touched the lives of many people during his long stay on this Earth.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Anthony's name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A Celebration of Anthony's life will begin on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 with a visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
