Angelo Aggelopoulos, age 82, at rest on Saturday, March 21, 2015 with his loving daughters by his side.
Angelo was born and raised in Joliet, IL and educated in the Joliet school system. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet. Angelo was a proud United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. After the war, Angelo and his wife Irene became partners in numerous businesses in the Joliet and Wilmington communities. With his siblings, they opened the Hickory Creek Food Market in Wilmington and left after 4 years. In 1961 they founded Angelo’s Liquors on Broadway Street in Crest Hill and in 1962 they opened Angelo’s Liquors in Wilmington. In 1981, Angelo’s Outdoor Sports Center, Ben Franklin Variety Store and True Value Hardware were established. The Pic-A-Flick Video Stores with 4 locations were opened shortly thereafter.
Angelo is survived by his loving daughters, Cathy Aggelopoulos of New Lenox, Patti Van Auken of Minooka, IL, and Georgine (Jay) Penney of Evans, GA; grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Oman, Kristen Van Auken and Sarah Van Auken, Chad, Sydney and Taylor Penney; great-grandchildren, Layla Oman, Penelope and Emma Skrzypczynski; siblings, Mary (Dominic) Mancuso, Nicholas Aggelopoulos; brother-in-law, Nick (the late Rita) Andrew; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene Aggelopoulos (nee Calamaras); parents, George and Patricia Aggelopoulos; sisters, Rita Andrew, Marilyn Metros and Barbara Rash.
In lieu of flowers donations in Angelo’s name to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 S. Main St, Wilmington, IL 60481 would be appreciated.
Funeral Services for Angelo will begin on Thursday, March 26, 2015 meeting in the funeral home chapel at 8:45 a.m. then driving in procession to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet for a Funeral Service to be held at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Hills of Rest. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4-8 p.m. with a Trisagion Service during the visitation at 6:00 p.m.
