Angelina Padilla Smith, was granted her angel wings on April 1, 2012 after a brave fight with cancer. She was born in Joliet, Illinois on February 26, 1958. A resident of Joliet for past 20 years, she also lived in Abilene, Texas and Tampa, Florida.
Angie attended Joliet grade schools and Joliet Central High School and was a member of the JTHS band. Angie was a professional cake decorator for over 20 years. She had a great love for her family especially her grandchildren. She loved watching movies, reading and returning to school to be a straight A??AA?i student while attending college. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family and friends that Angie had touched in some small way, throughout her short, yet very memorable life. Those who were privileged to know her, understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile, funny laugh and sense of humor brought so much joy to her family.
Angelina is survived by her children; two sons, Laverne Smith III (Erika Watters) and Danieal Smith; her daughter Sara Carranza (Luis); seven grand children Laverne Smith IV, Maria Smith, Aubrey Smith, Marcello Smith, Luis Jr., Layali and Laila Carranza; former husband Laverne Smith Jr.; four brothers Peter, Joe, Michael(Laura), David, Modesto Jr. and Anthony; six sisters Mary Zapfel (the late Larry), Teresa Riesche, Rosa Foote, Lucy (Frank) Gombash, Anita (Michael) Kursell and Elena Padilla; her godson Raziel Martinez; numerous nieces and nephews.
Angie is preceded in death by her parents Modesto Padilla (1985) and Maria Toscano Padilla (2003) as well as one brother and one sister in infancy.
The family would like to thank the Joliet Area Community Hospice for their compassion and support during the past few weeks.
