Sister Angela Marie Kostelec, OSF (1908-2009) dies peacefully at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on May 29, 2009. Born in Joliet, IL on May 6, 1908, she was the fifth daughter born to Anton and Mary (Stefanic) Kostelec. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Anthony Costello and John Kostelec; and her sisters, Mayme, Anne, Margaret; Sister Josephine Marie, Sister Frances Marie Kostelec and Agnes Goebels. Sister Angela Marie was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 85 years. Sister Angela Marie entered the Joliet Franciscans from St. Joseph Parish in Joliet, IL in 1924. She received her Bachelor's Degree at the college of St. Francis (now the University of St. Francis) in Joliet. Sister Angela Marie began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in 1927 at St. Peter School in Mansfield, Ohio. Her ministry in education spanned 46 years in schools in Ohio and Illinois. In 1975 she began a new ministry of pastoral service to the sick and infirm sisters at Our Lady of Angels residing at the Motherhouse on Plainfield Road. For the last six years she has been a resident at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home where her final years were devoted to prayer and community service. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from 2:00-6:45 PM with a Prayer Service at 4:45 PM and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 PM. The funeral procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, at 9:00 AM. The interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet, IL.
