Age 87. At rest Sunday September 18, 2011 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorraine (nee Wedic) Kernc in 2009; his parents Frank and Frances (nee Hren) Kernc, 2 sisters, Anne (Joseph) Gregorich and Mary (Francis) Paul; 2 brothers, Frank (Eleanor) and Joseph Kernc, and a nephew Patrick Paul.
Survived by his loving children; Donna (Alan) Chesko, Alan (Karen) of PA, David (Hilda), Kolleen (David) Cherry; 5 grandchildren, Alan Chesko Jr, Christiann (Rob) Scarafia, Melinda Kernc, Ryan (Jamie) Kernc, Madison Cherry, and Jacob Kernc; one step-granddaughter, Dana (Greg) Lipson; 8 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Al was born in Joliet where he lived his entire life. He was a United States Navy Veteran during World War II serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres on several aircraft carriers. He met and married his wife Lorraine in 1947. He retired in 1993 as president and part-owner of Joliet Auto Supply after 46 years. Al was an active member of St. Anne"s Parish in Crest Hill, the Charter President and 25th year President of the Crest Hill Lion"s Club, and was instrumental in the incorporation of the City of Crest Hill, serving on the planning commission.

Funeral Services for Albert E. Kernc will held Friday September 23, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Anne Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-5 & 6-8 p.m.
